July 1: My fantastic boyfriend treated me to my dream birthday dinner! He took me to Taco Bell, where I got my favorite meal, then he made me a fantastic sangria martini and we watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, then spent some quality time together :)

He really knows what I like  fb_kiki

After a very long and exhausting rehearsal process, Bombs Away! opened last night to a wonderful crowd and we had a great performance! And we got Jeff Recommended, so congratulations to my wonderful castmates and the fabulous team behind Bombs Away!

Here’s the view from the balcony of my friend Sean’s apartment. He is always such a wonderful host! And when he has us to his place one of the highlights is always sitting out on his balcony and enjoying the interior view of the city. It’s amazing. Absolutely stunning. And it makes you feel like such a part of the city to be right there.

I’m spending the morning getting caught up with work before I head to the airport to fly to Ohio to visit my parents for the weekend for some rest & relaxation & wonderful-cooking-by-dad & pampering-by-mom FTW! victory

I got a 2nd callback for Cousins Grimm (woot!) this afternoon, so I’m also rehearsing for that. I’m going in to be videotaped so they can send us all to the NY writers for consideration. Wish me luck! I’ll be heading straight to the airport from the callback. I usually have my prescription Xanax for flights (I have panic disorder and I get attacks easily when I fly) but unfortunately I’m out this trip. Eep! I’m sure I’ll be fine though. Maybe I’ll throw a movie on my iPhone or continue reading The Host. Hopefully that book picks up soon.

I bought beer and cookies last night and thoroughly enjoyed it! Mmmm. And they were the crappy Chips Ahoy! cookies that I remember from being a kid. They’re so bad, yet so good!  greedy

I may do some micro-blogging this weekend if I get bored or something terribly interesting happens… maybe. I’ll probably just be enjoying myself and being lazy. Either way, I’ll see you when I get back!

Cheers!

This week it was announced that Iowa and Vermont will now recognize same-sex marriages (effective April 27, 2009 and September 1, 2009 respectively). That’s four as of this date: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, and Vermont. Besides the obviously hilarious fact that Iowa is officially now more progressive than California, we are slowly moving in the right direction. THANK GOD.

It’s interesting to me that people often want to side with the popular vote when it comes to civil liberties. If we had always sided with the popular vote, we would not have made as much progress as we have. Supreme Court rulings (both on the federal and state level) have always been instrumental in defining progress in Women’s rights, minority rights, and so many other civil liberties throughout history. Thank you, wikipedia.

I personally don’t care what we call it. Call it marriage, call it civil union, call it whatever you want as far as I’m concerned. Hell, if we call it something else then the maybe social conservatives who are so concerned with the sanctity of marriage will go concentrate on their own marriages and leave us the hell alone. It sounds to me like all they want is the word, anyway. Give it to them. It’s not the prettiest word in the book, anyway. We’ll call ours A More Equal Union and I bet a lot less of us will take it for granted.

My good friends Nicki and Kara got married last weekend and are now starting their life together as partners, despite what the “popular opinion” is telling them. I am so inspired by their relationship with one another. They don’t take it for granted. They did it for the right reasons. And I think their wedding came with a really cool bonus too: The most beautiful “Fuck You” I’ve ever seen. Thanks, Nicki and Kara, for being two of my heroes. I remember being at the protest with you two, marching for hours in the cold with nothing more than coffee, signs, and freedom.

So I was browsing the new movie trailers on Hulu today and noticed that this coming summer and fall are seasons for the kid in you at the movies! I remember some of my most beloved children’s books… ones I had nearly forgotten about until I saw these trailers. Now they’re coming to life and I couldn’t be more excited! I love it when your favorite stories from childhood – the ones that fed your imagination and created amazing new worlds for you – are realized with today’s computer graphics technology. And, being a huge computer graphics geek myself, these movies bring back to life some of my favorite moments of childhood and inspire my adult imagination more than ever before. These movies look absolutely beautiful and – at a time when it is most sorely needed – look like they’re going to be great places to escape to. See you at the movies!

Harmony and I went with our friends Andra and Jamie (her husband) to see the musical Wings at Apple Tree Theatre tonight! I am so happy that I’ve been able to see so much good theater recently. I usually never get to see anything because I’m always in a show and they always conflict with other performances. Well, since I’m taking a 3ish month sabbatical from theater, I’m really enjoying the opportunity to see good theater. I went to support my friends who were in the cast – they were all great (they were small roles, but they did great jobs with them!) and we went out to the restaurant/bar Union in Evanston, IL. That place is really cool! It’s a very “New York City Early 90′s” kind of place. Harm and I shared a Margherita pizza that was horribly difficult to eat. But good! Hopefully I get to see more good theater soon!

Cheers!

So I landed a modeling gig with Bouggy clothing line (London, Chicago) and I did their main campaign shoot today at the Funky Buddha Lounge in downtown Chicago. That place rocks! They had me in Gucci boots and Hugo Boss jeans to go with the haute couture t-shirts I was modeling. My outfit cost more than a month’s rent! The other two models I worked with were really fun. It was a guy and a girl, and the girl was so unbelievably gorgeous I couldn’t believe it! I also modeled most of the shirts for the catalogue. Once I get the photos from Bouggy I will post them! I went to see Mary Poppins (the musical) at the Cadillac Palace theatre downtown today. It was AMAZING!! I can’t remember the last time I had such a great time in the theatre. I felt like a kid again!
