Talking to my friend Blitz right now and he mentioned that he watched 28 Weeks Later on my blog, and I realized that I haven’t posted the first movie yet! So, here is the first in the series: 28 Days Later. Enjoy, and don’t test dangerous and volatile chemicals on unsuspecting humans without taking the necessary precautions!

We all know I have a problem with terrible horror movies. That’s no secret. Tonight is a bit reminiscent of a horror movie to me here in Chicago; there is a violent howling wind outside my window, it’s the middle of the night, and aside from the wind it’s just a little too silent… Who knows what sort of delicious horror will befall me! Well, to celebrate this most windy and scary of nights I’m going to share with you a terrible horror movie. Actually it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen this movie so I don’t remember how bad or good it is. I’ll let you watch it and judge for yourself – it’s the sequel to the zombie movie 28 days later (I love zombie movies!). Enjoy, stay warm if it’s cold, and remember: Always watch a scary movie with a candle burning. Dunno why, but it just feels right to me. Cheers!

I get a lot of people asking me what the best way is to get started with graphic design. I always have some immediate resources that I use and refer them to, and I also have my standbys. Here are some of my favorite recent resource finds and standbys that you can visit for some great inspiration, tools, and techniques to use with Adobe Photoshop CS4.

  1. old-photoshop-logo.jpg.jpeg
Well, this is the first step. You can download a free evaluation copy to use for 30 days before making your (very worthwhile) purchase!

  2. Qbrushes.com
    logo.gif
Qbrushes is one of my favorite new finds. It is a great resource that is FULL of amazing, detailed, and hi-resolution Photoshop brushes to use in your projects!
  3. Dafont.com
    dafont.gif
There are a lot of great font resources out there, and this one almost never fails me. Most are free for personal use, and you can test out your typography with custom text before you download!
  4. Tutorialvault.net

It can sometimes be a daunting task to find just the right online tutorial for the project you’re looking for. There are some great subscription-based resource libraries (see below), but if you’re looking for some quality, free help, this is the place to go. With over 2500 tutorials on almost anything you could imagine, this site constantly inspires me in my projects.
  5. Lynda.com

As far as training libraries go, THIS IS THE TICKET. They have an unbelievably extensive database of VIDEO tutorials for all Adobe products (currently to CS4) ftw! They have hours of extremely helpful videos on each Adobe product available for subscribers to watch at any time. You can, however, watch a select number of videos from each product without a subscription (aka: free). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this site to anyone who wants to learn all the nooks and crannies of Adobe CS4 in the most efficient way possible.

Enjoy these resources as you get to know the amazing possibilities held within Adobe Photoshop!

Cheers!

Hey all! I was playing in Photoshop the other day, making various backgrounds for my Twitter profile, blog, Fafarazzi profile, etc. and learning various techniques for making seamless tiling backgrounds. Here’s one of my favorites that I made, and I’m making it available for you to use as you like! You may want to compress the image yourself before using it; I posted as lossless an image as I could get through jpg. This background image can be used for any standard non-commercial use. Enjoy!

How To Watch TV Without A TV

February 29th, 2008

banksy_tv_window.jpg

If you are like me, you don’t own a television set and you need to get a job. Scrapping that TV set of yours can save space in your home and give the universe one less way to waste your time. However, sometimes you just need to watch yourself some TV. And of course, you can always watch your favorite shows online – such as Lost, Brothers & Sisters, Pushing Daisies, Jericho, ANTM, Project Runway (okay so these are all my favorite shows, but they are GREAT). Here are some great places to catch full-length episodes:

ABC – This is the best place to watch TV online. It’s streaming, you have your choice of 3 sizes (including fullscreen), minimal commercial breaks, and they even have STREAMING HD!

CBS – I only catch Jericho on this site. Skeet Ulrich, really?? That’s beside the point. They have a decent player, but it’s only one size (boo). Good quality, tho!

NBC – I only watch Heroes on this site, but I like my viewing experience here. Good quality video and the ability to easily navigate within episodes (good for people like me who don’t pay attention very well and have to re-watch parts of a show 4 times to know what the hell is going on).

CWTV – This is where I watch America’s Next Top Model, but I usually catch it on youtube WAY before this site is able to put up the current episode. It takes them like a week to get an episode up. BOO.

Youtube – Well, it’s youtube. What can I say? It’s grand. This is where I watch ANTM and Project Runway. I just wish the overall video quality was better because I have a hard time judging the model photos and the designer clothes.

But Eric M Chicago, what if you just can’t wait an extra day to see Lost or Extreme Home Makeover?

Well now hoss, that’s something I’ve been checking out lately. So far I have found two sites that stream live network TV. The only kind-of drawback: It’s coming out of Utah, so for people like me in Chicago I have a 3-hour delay. But you know what? If that means I have to watch Lost at 11pm instead of 8pm I’m okay with it. Check these streams out:

So don’t worry about saving your money for a TV set – These are some great ways to watch TV without a TV!

CLICK HERE TO GO TO WATCH-MOVIES.NET

I have been checking out free online movie sites recently. These are sites dedicated to bringing you streaming movies for FREE that you can watch in your web browser. Usually they link to YouTube-type sites hosted in other countries, so it’s not necessarily illegal. Hmm… Anyway, after checking out many sites I found what I consider to be the best. It’s called Watch-Movies.net. You can watch pretty much ANY movie you want, online and streaming. No downloads needed, no signing up for anything, no cost, no nothing! And I’m not only talking about some movies – I’m talking almost ANY movie you could want to watch, including new releases that are only in theaters! Just search for your favorite movie and play it instantly! Couldn’t you just die?!

This is great for people who travel a lot with their laptops and want to watch a movie on a whim, or for those who can’t make it out to the cinemas. You can even pre-load the films in the airport, then watch the movie on your flight!

This site gets Gold Star!Gold Star!Gold Star!Gold Star!Gold Star!

Five rockstars!

I’ve watched movies such as Cloverfield, Schindler’s List, Gangs of New York, and Jumper. The quality of each movie varies, but you get more than your money’s worth! :)
